In 2018 I was elected as Cobourg's Deputy Mayor, after serving for two years as Town Councillor from 2016 to 2018.

During that campaign I heard that Cobourg needed a strong inclusive and balanced voice on Council to bring the focus back to core values, listen to the residents, business owners and industry leaders and leading by example. As the Municipal Act states: "the role of Council is to represent the public and to consider the well-being and interests of the municipality 224 (a)".

Some of Cobourg's features (our waterfront, direct rail and highway access to large cities, historic buildings, parks) also represent significant costs beyond those faced by many towns of similar size.

The budget challenge for the next term of Council is ensuring there are sufficient funds for the essentials (roads, water/sewer, public safety), as well as maintenance of beaches, parks, recreation centres, and the costs of managing growth (e.g. servicing new subdivisions).

I have met many residents and business owners and have attended many events throughout these constructive six years on Cobourg Council. As a business and property owner, I would love to hear your concerns and questions about Cobourg, the job we have done and how we can do it better during the 2022-2026 term of Council.

We need Proven Experience You Can Trust to make informed decisions at the Council table. If I am re-elected as your Deputy Mayor my job will be to honour your trust in me every day.

Suzanne's Vision for 2022-2026

Let’s work together to create a town that has a sustainable future.

My 13 years of experience in municipal government, including four years as your Deputy

Mayor in Cobourg, has given me the skills and knowledge required to lead Council’s

municipal governance and finance procedures. Producing a fair, responsible budget that

reflects our core values, while keeping our taxes and debt under control, is my top priority

for this next term of Council.

The pandemic has been tough on all of us, but the time has come for a new approach for Cobourg’s strategic plan, so Council gets more done in less time. We welcome new fresh ideas from our seniors, youth, families, and business owners. Initiatives will also include: innovative marketing for Cobourg, saving energy in cost-effective ways, and taking another look at transit, parking and fees for town services.

The job of Deputy Mayor may attract those who know what to fix, but do they know how? This job is much more than a stepping-stone to the office of Mayor! My common sense approach to Cobourg issues will continue to ensure that your voice is heard at the Council table.  My record shows that I ask the right questions and care about the issues that matter the most to you!
